It’s June 26, 2014 and yes, ladies and gentlemen, we’re in Minnesota. Of course, absolutely NOTHING went according to plan.
THE PLAN: Wendy, Chad and I fly from DIA at 7:50pm on Wednesday, June 18, and wait for Kurt and Michael to get the rest of the house in Fort Collins packed and merrily drive back on Saturday, the 21st.
WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENED: Before making our way to the airport, Wendy gets an update that our flight has been delayed to 8:35pm. We thought it would give us time to actually eat and enjoy a form of dinner without rushing to make it to our gate. Towards the end of our awesome airport dinner, we look out of the window and it’s pouring rain outside! We finally go sit at the gate, put our stuff down and get Chad situated and while we’re waiting…our flight gets delayed to 10pm. The person on the intercom announced there were no planes coming in or leaving the airport for a while. At this point, we’ve been at the airport for about…3 and a half hours. (Please, keep in mind that the time frame is just a guess, I was beat and time got away from me.) Anyway, planes started coming and going, but our flight got pushed back to 11:10pm. And, eventually…CANCELLED. No flights into MSP until Friday. We had to call my step-dad to pick us up for the night. We decided that it would just be better to drive back with the boys if we would have had to stay until Friday anyway. So drive we did.
Was it stressful? YES! I was already an emotional wreck from saying goodbye to my parents and little sister and I had to do it twice. I was running on emotional fumes and I probably wouldn’t have known what to do with myself if something else had gone awry. The drive went smoothly, even with an 8-month-old, but the boy was a champion!! He had one little meltdown right before we even hit Cheyenne, but was amazing for the rest of the drive.
He got restless when he was hungry or needed a change of diaper. Seriously, rock star Chad. BUT we’re here!! We’re safe! We’re together!! I’m pretty excited to start this new adventure for our family. 🙂
